Video Games & Math

I just wanted to say that I do not think anyone can blame video games for childrens obesity. I have grown up with computers, video game systems, and TV. The first word I learned to spell was Load on a Commadore 64 computer when i was 3. I am physically fit and am actually underweight. Video games are not to blame. It is the responsibility of the parents to show their kids that they have to play outside. I only played games when it was not suitable to be outside, bad weather or dark. Violence can also not be blamed on video games. If that were true I should be able to do anything and blame it on the news, there is more violence there than any videogame. I was also taught by my parents the difference between fiction and reality.

I believe the reason for poor math scores is due to the fact that people have become to relient on calculators and the stigma math has gotten as being so hard. The first time I used a calculator was in Algebra 2. Before that I learned to do it by hand or in my head. I have taught math classes and when high school graduates dont know place values it is really sad. the schools need to do a better job about teaching rather then just moving students on with their peers. Math is not that hard, it has rules that if you follow it makes it very easy to do.
